Dog Owners

We have just witnessed the hottest July since records began and the heatwave looks like extending well into August, possibly throughout the festival.

This can be very dangerous for our four-legged friends and whilst we remain a dog-friendly festival and will be doing all we can to make things comfortable for them – we have dog bowls and canine paddling pools by the arena taps – the oweness for their safety lies with you, the owner.

Please make sure that if it is hot, you carry your dogs over the alloy trackway that goes around the arena rather than let them walk on it. The metal gets terribly hot and could burn their paws.

Please keep your dogs hydrated and never leave them in the car in direct sunlight.

Below are some temperature guide lines. If it is going to be hot, it really might be best to try and find somewhere for your dog to stay if you can, rather than bring them to the festival.

32  C +                   Heatstroke is a significant risk.

28-31 C                This range is dangerous for all dogs and life-threatening for larger breeds, puppies as well as digs with flat faces or obesity.

24-27 C                Exercise extreme caution here. Most dogs, especially those that are large, overweight, have flat faces or are very youn, might strugglein these tempertatures

20-23 C                Even at this range, dogs can get heat stroke if exercised too vigorously or if they have existing health issues.

16-19 C                Safe to exercise dogs at any time but be cautious with larger, heavier or flat-faced breeds.

12-15 C                No signs of heatstroke so go ahead and enjoy!
