Fairport Convention

A Message from Georgia Rose Lucas
Hello Fairporters
I’m Georgia Rose, Sandy Denny’s daughter.
I’m currently collaborating with Richard Houghton from Spenwood Books to bring you a book called Sandy Denny: A People’s History, and I wanted to share it here with the Fairport Convention family — because this story begins with you.
My mum’s time with Fairport Convention helped shape not only her own journey, but the sound and spirit of British folk music in the late 1960s and 70s. Those years, those songs, and that sense of shared discovery still mean so much to people today.
This book is a collection of personal stories from people whose lives were touched by Sandy’s music. You didn’t have to know her, or have seen her live. You may simply have been one of those lucky people who discovered her voice, bought an album, and suddenly found her music becoming part of your life — part of the soundtrack to it.
I’m especially grateful to Fairport for continuing to keep Sandy’s spirit alive on stage. Hearing her songs sung and honoured — particularly by Simon Nicol — means more to me than I can easily put into words. Those moments remind us that the music is still living and breathing.
No story is too long or too short. If you’ve had a Sandy moment, a memory, or an experience — however small it may feel — I would truly love to hear it. This is one of the most important projects I’ve ever worked on, and it means the world to me to gather these voices together.
We’re now in the final weeks of collecting stories. If you’d like to be part of this shared history, please send your contribution to:

You can find more information about the book here:

One last small but important request:
If you know someone who loves Sandy’s music but isn’t on social media, please help pass this on. Pick up the phone, send a note, or let them know in whatever way you can. I’d hate for anyone to discover the book after it’s published and realise they missed the chance to be part of it. It matters just as much to them as it does to me.
Thank you, always, for helping keep my mum’s music, voice, and presence alive.
With love and gratitude,
Georgia Rose Lucas
