2010 USA Tour News.

It is with not without a lot of thought and with much regret that we must announce that the projected return of Fairport Convention to the USA this fall has had to be put on hold. Our many friends in the States deserve at least an outline of an explanation.

It was our intention that when we came back, we would come as the full five-piece 'electric' band as opposed to the pared-down quartet and latterly trio version which have been making increasingly infrequent trips over the pond. This was something none of us wanted to compromise upon, despite knowing that, when a tour manager/sound man was included, the touring budget would instantly double at a time when the band's market value was at best static.

The hard facts of the matter are that we simply do not have the breadth of appeal and the business clout for this to make financial sense. Our good friend and wonderful US agent, Pat Garrett, did everything he could to enthuse promoters and presenters familiar and brand new, and managed to create the bare bones of a schedule for October which we agonised over but our unanimous decision is that this time will be much better utilised in the long-term interests of an enduring Fairport in a studio somewhere making a new CD. Simon, Gerry, Chris and Peggy will be off to europe in November touring Alan Simon's musical extravaganza, Anne de Bretagne.
