Bruce Rowland - RIP

It is with heavy heart we report that former Fairport drummer Bruce Rowland has passed away following his battle with cancer.

Peggy - "Bruce Rowland was a lovely man and a great drummer. He saved the Rising for the Moon album recording sessions by joining us after Dave Mattacks left. His playing and "feel" for music was superb.

"His track record is remarkable. Playing at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo with The Guards band, teaching a young Phil Collins the drums, doing the recording sessions for "Jesus Christ Superstar" - for a fixed fee rather than accepting a royalty (something he always regretted) - and playing at Woodstock with Joe Cocker. New Festival in Yorkshire

MBE for Ashley Hutchings!!

We are delighted to announce that our very good friend Ashley Hutchings (an original member of Fairport Convention) is to receive an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for his services to folk music.

"I'm obviously very proud of this honour,” said Ashley, “but it's England's musical tradition that's being recognised as much as me."

Musician, songwriter and bandleader Ashley not only founded Fairport but is widely credited with the creation of the British folk-rock music genre in the late 1960s. He has been the driving force behind bands including Steeleye Span, the Albion Band, the Morris On Band and Rainbow Chasers. More...
